The Difference In Male And Female Sexual Arousal

Arousal is the first step towards sexual satisfaction. However, there are differences between men and women and the speed in which they become aroused. The typical scenario is of the man who's raring to go, and the woman who needs longer to become aroused.

This often causes problems in sexual relationships. Couples need to understand the differences between them and in the case of the man, have more patience and understanding. Their lovemaking will be so much better.

Men can become fully aroused in a matter of minutes, if not seconds. Men respond quickly and easily to fairly basic and often predictable triggers - a simple sight, sound, smell or touch. Most men have embarrassing stories about times when they've become aroused despite their best efforts not to.

For women sexual arousal is a slower, more unpredictable and complex process. Not only are women's bodies built differently than men, but they also think differently.

In general, men tend to focus on specific issues and goals, one at a time, rather than the "big picture". So, when sex is the focus, there is little to dampen arousal because, for the time being, sex is the only issue that matters. Never mind that the bills are past due, his job is headed down the toilet, or that his life is falling apart. All that matters at that moment is sex.

The opposite is true for women. Female sexuality is intricately linked to everything else in her life. Her emotions, stress levels, feelings about herself and her surroundings and about the man she's with, all plays a part. With women, it's the big picture that counts.Women often find it difficult to separate one aspect of their lives from another. In fact, women are well known for their ability to devote their energies and emotions to several things at once.

However, to become aroused, a women need to let go of the big picture. This goes against the grain of her thinking, and subsequently, it takes a woman considerably more time than it does a man to feel "in the mood". While men may be able to block out other thoughts, women process a lot of information en route to arousal, consciously and subconsciously.

This isn't to say that a woman runs through a lengthy checklist in her head. It simply means that she needs time for the big picture to fade away for her focus to narrow down to the pleasures of the moment.

Depending on what's going on in the big picture, this process can vary as to lenght of time. The wise, intelligent male, although aroused and ready to go, will control himself and show more patience, thus giving his partner the time that she needs.
